Sales Tax Calculator Pakistan: GST, Reverse, Inclusive
A sales tax calculator adds tax to a price, or strips it out of a tax-inclusive total. For goods in Pakistan the federal rate is 18%, so Rs 10,000 becomes Rs 11,800. For services the provincial rate is usually 15% or 16%.
Finance Bill 2026 coverage reports the 18% rate unchanged for 2026-27. Reverse calculation trips up most people, because an inclusive total must be divided by 1.18, not multiplied by 0.18. Type any rate you need.
How a Sales Tax Calculator Works: Add and Reverse
Adding tax is one multiplication. Tax equals price times rate, and the total is price plus tax. At 18%, Rs 1,000 adds Rs 180.
Reverse calculation divides the inclusive total by one plus the rate to get the price before tax. Subtracting that price from the total gives the tax. Label the input field tax-inclusive.
Sales Tax Calculator Rates in Pakistan 2026-27
The federal rate on goods is 18%. Provincial authorities tax services under their own laws. The rate follows where the service is supplied.
Supply | Rate | Charged by |
|---|---|---|
Standard goods | 18% | FBR |
Services in Punjab | 16% | PRA |
Services in Sindh | 15% | SRB |
Services in KP, Balochistan, Islamabad | 15% | KPRA, BRA, ICT |
A 4% further tax applies to supplies to unregistered buyers. Exports are zero-rated. An SRB tax calculator and a PRA tax calculator differ only in the rate.

Sales Tax Calculator Examples With Interpretation
Four cases cover adding tax, removing it, a provincial service and input tax. Each shows the formula. Each ends with what the figure means.
Adding 18% to a price
Rs 10,000 at 18% carries Rs 1,800 of tax, so the total is Rs 11,800. The seller remits Rs 1,800. Tax is 15.25% of the total, not 18%.
Reverse Sales Tax Calculator: Removing 18% From Rs 11,800
Dividing Rs 11,800 by 1.18 gives a base of Rs 10,000 and tax of Rs 1,800. Multiplying by 18% overstates the tax at Rs 2,124. Divide whenever the total includes tax.
A service in Punjab at 16%
A Rs 50,000 service fee at 16% carries Rs 8,000 of tax, so the client pays Rs 58,000. At 18% the tax would be Rs 9,000, Rs 1,000 too high. The supply sets the rate.
Output tax minus input tax
A seller charges 18% on Rs 500,000 of sales, or Rs 90,000 of output tax. Purchases of Rs 300,000 carried Rs 54,000 of input tax. The seller pays Rs 36,000 with the monthly return, normally due by the 15th.
Code Snippet: Add and Remove Tax in JavaScript
The helper takes the rate as an argument, because rates change. A negative net payable means a carry-forward. The tool uses the same code.
Round once, at the end, to the paisa. On long invoices, round each line first. Then add them.
// Rates are arguments, not constants: goods GST is 18%, provincial services tax is 15% to 16%.
const r2 = (n) => Math.round(n * 100) / 100;
const addTax = (price, rate) => ({ tax: r2(price * rate), total: r2(price * (1 + rate)) });
const removeTax = (total, rate) => {
const base = r2(total / (1 + rate)); // divide, never multiply by the rate
return { base, tax: r2(total - base) };
};
const netPayable = (outputTax, inputTax) => r2(outputTax - inputTax); // negative means carry forward
// addTax(10000, 0.18) -> { tax: 1800, total: 11800 }
// removeTax(11800, 0.18) -> { base: 10000, tax: 1800 }Security: Invoices, STRN and Input Tax Claims
Never type an NTN, CNIC or password into a calculator. The maths does not need them. Check a supplier on the FBR Active Taxpayer List before relying on their invoice.
The Finance Bill 2026 reportedly tightens input tax denial for fictitious suppliers. It also enforces digital invoicing. Keep the invoice, payment record and supplier status together.
Common Sales Tax Errors
Most wrong answers come from the direction of the calculation or the rate used. The first two rows cover both. Check them first.
Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
Tax too high on a total | Multiplied the total by the rate | Divide by one plus the rate |
Service taxed at 18% | Used the goods rate | Use the provincial rate |
Input tax rejected | Supplier or invoice invalid | Verify before claiming |
If a figure differs by a few rupees, check the invoice rounding. Round each line. Then add them.
Goods GST, Services Tax and Further Tax Compared
A business selling both goods and services files with the FBR and a provincial authority. Each return has its own rate. The supply decides which row applies.
Tax | Applies to | Rate | Authority |
|---|---|---|---|
Federal sales tax | Goods | 18% | FBR |
Provincial sales tax | Services | 15% to 16% | SRB, PRA, KPRA, BRA, ICT |
Further tax | Unregistered buyers | 4% extra | FBR |
Enter the rate from the matching row. Federal excise duty (Federal Excise Act, 2005) and customs duty are separate levies. The car import duty calculator covers customs.
Sales Tax Calculator FAQs
Five answers cover rates, reverse calculation, GST, the taxing authority and input tax. Each uses the rates above. Confirm your authority’s schedule before filing.
Conclusion
A sales tax calculator turns a price into tax and total, or a total into a base. Use 18% for goods and the provincial rate for services. Divide by 1.18 to reverse.
Confirm the rate with the FBR or the provincial authority before you invoice. For similar maths on a recharge, see the mobile load tax calculator. Or return to the Pakistan tax calculators hub.
