Motorway Toll Tax Calculator Pakistan 2026

A motorway toll tax calculator gives the toll for a Pakistani motorway trip before you leave home. The National Highway Authority (NHA) charges a fee, not a tax, but drivers search for a tax. These rates took effect on 10 July 2026, and the M-2 rates run from 5 July 2026 to 23 April 2027.

Pick a motorway, a vehicle class and M-Tag or cash, and the tool shows the full-route toll. Choose return to double it. It covers eight motorways.

How the Motorway Toll Tax Calculator Works

The tool looks up the NHA full-route toll for your class on the chosen motorway. It has six classes. A return trip is the one-way toll twice.

Plazas charge by interchange, so a partial trip costs less. The NHA publishes a per-km rate only for the M-2. The tool uses it for a labelled estimate.

Motorway toll rates by vehicle class, from 10 July 2026

Figures are in rupees for the full route. The M-2 row follows the NHA escalation notice. A wagon seats up to 12, a coaster 13 to 24.

Motorway Toll Tax Calculator Examples With Interpretation

Four trips show how class and route set the toll. Three use the NHA tables above. The fourth is a labelled M-2 estimate.

A car from Islamabad to Lahore and back

A car pays Rs 1,430 one way on the M-2, so the return costs Rs 2,860. The toll was Rs 1,330 before July. A weekly return trip adds up to Rs 148,720 a year.

A wagon on the M-1

A wagon pays Rs 1,100 on the M-1, Rs 400 more than a car. A coaster pays Rs 1,450. Seat count sets the class.

A two-axle truck on the M-4

The truck pays Rs 5,300, almost four times the Rs 1,350 car toll. Axle count sets the class, not the load. An empty truck pays the same.

A part-route car trip on the M-2

A car covering about 150 km of the M-2 pays roughly Rs 597 at Rs 3.98 per km. Treat that as an estimate. The NHA rounds totals to Rs 10.

Code Snippet: Motorway Toll Tax Calculator in JavaScript

The function holds every rate in one table, so a new notification needs one edit. It returns the full-route toll. A return trip doubles it.

// NHA full-route tolls in Rs, in class order: car, wagon, coaster, bus, 2-3 axle truck, articulated.
// M-1, M-3, M-4, M-5, M-14, E-35: notification effective 10 Jul 2026. M-2: valid 5 Jul 2026 to 23 Apr 2027.
const CLASS = { car: 0, wagon: 1, coaster: 2, bus: 3, truck: 4, articulated: 5 };
const TOLL = {
  M1:  [700, 1100, 1450, 2100, 2700, 3350],
  M2:  [1430, 2390, 3350, 4770, 6210, 7980],
  M3:  [1000, 1500, 2200, 3150, 4050, 5000],
  M4:  [1350, 1950, 2900, 4050, 5300, 6500],

};
const M2_PER_KM = [3.98, 6.68, 9.34, 13.32, 17.33, 22.29];

// The 50% non-M-Tag surcharge is under an IHC stay, so cash pays the notified toll. Set true if the stay ends.
const SURCHARGE_IN_FORCE = false;
function tollFor({ route, vehicle, roundTrip = false, payment = "mtag" }) {
  const base = TOLL[route][CLASS[vehicle]];
  const one = payment === "cash" && SURCHARGE_IN_FORCE ? Math.round((base * 1.5) / 10) * 10 : base;
  return roundTrip ? one * 2 : one;
}
// Estimate only: plazas charge by interchange pair, so confirm the figure at the plaza.
const m2Estimate = (vehicle, km) => Math.round(M2_PER_KM[CLASS[vehicle]] * km);

// tollFor({ route: "M2", vehicle: "car", roundTrip: true }) -> 2860
// tollFor({ route: "M2", vehicle: "car", payment: "cash" }) -> 1430 (2150 if SURCHARGE_IN_FORCE is true)
// m2Estimate("car", 150) -> 597

The M-2 estimate is a per-km figure, not a plaza price. Confirm any partial trip at the plaza. Plazas charge by interchange.

How to Pay Motorway Tolls and Stay Safe

Pay by M-Tag or at the plaza, and recharge the tag only through NHA channels. Check the tag balance. Compare it with the plaza board.

NHA announced a 50% surcharge for vehicles without an active M-Tag. The Islamabad High Court stayed it from 3 July 2026 and the NHA said it stopped charging. Treat any text demanding toll payment by link as suspect.

Common Motorway Toll Tax Calculator Errors

Most gaps with the plaza come from the vehicle class. Check seats and axles. Rates are rarely the cause.

A gap of Rs 10 or Rs 20 on the M-2 is rounding. A larger gap means another class or an old rate. Ask the plaza for the rate.

Motorway Toll Tax Calculator FAQs

These answers cover NHA tolls. They use the July 2026 notification and M-2 notice. Unconfirmed items are marked.

No. The NHA charges it as a fee. The FBR does not collect it or list it on a return.

A car pays Rs 1,430 one way from Islamabad to Lahore on the M-2. A wagon pays Rs 2,390 and a bus Rs 4,770. The M-2 rates are valid until 23 April 2027.

Yes, as an estimate. The M-9 is not in the July 2026 notification. The tool uses June 2025 rates, about Rs 367 for a car.

The Islamabad High Court suspended it in July 2026 and extended the stay in August. The NHA said it stopped charging. Later status is unconfirmed, so cash shows the normal toll.

No. The July 2026 notification also lists national highway plazas, such as Rs 100 for a car. This tool covers motorways only.

The NHA website hosts the notified rate tables under Toll Rates. It lists no toll calculator that this site could find. Use the plaza board for part-route trips.

Conclusion

A motorway toll tax calculator needs three inputs: the motorway, your vehicle class and how you pay. A car pays Rs 1,430 from Islamabad to Lahore and Rs 2,860 for the return trip. Check the result against the plaza board.

NHA notifications revise rates, so recheck after each. The M-2 set expires on 23 April 2027. The Pakistan tax calculators hub lists the other calculators, such as the token tax calculator and the car import duty calculator.
