Aasan Tax Methodology: Sources and Corrections

This Aasan Tax methodology page explains how every calculator gets its numbers. It covers our sources, the review cycle, how we handle conflicting figures and how corrections work. Read it if you want to know how far to trust a result.

Where the rates come from

We use primary sources first. For federal taxes that means the Finance Act, FBR notifications and SROs. For phones it is PTA and customs notices, for vehicles the provincial and Islamabad excise schedules, and for motorways the NHA toll notifications.

Secondary reports, such as news articles, help us spot a change early. We do not treat them as the final word. When a figure still rests on a secondary report, the calculator page says so, so you know to confirm it.

How the calculators work

Each calculator runs in your browser and applies the rate table in force for the year shown on the page. It shows each step of the working, and the page states any rounding rule it uses. The Aasan Tax methodology treats every result as an estimate and says so on the page.

Where a rule depends on filer status, province or engine size, the form asks for it. Where a rate has a cap, a floor or a court stay, the result says so. We do not hide a condition in a footnote.

How often we review

Every calculator page shows the date its rates were last reviewed. We re-check after each federal and provincial budget, after each Finance Act and whenever a source notice changes. The date records the day we last compared the page with its sources.

When sources disagree

Official documents sometimes conflict. A printed schedule can differ from the amount actually collected, or a new notice can contradict an earlier one. Where we can confirm the amount applied, we use it and note the difference on the page. Where we cannot, we show the figure from the primary document and mark it as unconfirmed.

Stay orders get the same treatment. When a tax is notified but suspended, the calculator shows the suspended state. The motorway toll calculator treats the non-M-Tag surcharge this way for as long as the Islamabad High Court stay holds.

What a result means

Results are estimates for planning. They can differ from your final bill because of withholding, exemptions we do not model and rate changes after the review date. Check the official portal, your payslip or your notice before you pay. The terms and disclaimer cover this in full.

How to report an error

  1. Email contact@aasantax.pk with the page link, your inputs and the figure you expect.
  2. We reproduce the result and compare it with the primary source.
  3. If the page is wrong, we correct the calculator and the text, and update the review date.
  4. We record material fixes in the corrections log below.

Anyone can ask for a check, and no account is needed. The Aasan Tax methodology applies the same steps to every report. A rate error gets priority over a wording fix.

Corrections log

Material corrections appear here with the date, the page and what changed. Typos and wording fixes are not listed. An empty log means we have not found a material error yet.
